For the second season in a row, Willian has been forced to accept a bit-part role in Antonio Conte’s first team plans. The Brazil international, who has represented his country on 49 occasions, has made as many substitute appearances as starts in the Premier League this term with six apiece.
He hasn’t actually started in the top flight since mid-October, but after a dazzling performance against Qarabag in midweek, the upcoming clash with Liverpool this Saturday could be the perfect time to bring him back into the fold.
The Azerbaijani outfit didn’t pose the biggest challenge to the Blues but Willian was still nothing short of irresistible against them, scoring twice while winning both of Chelsea’s penalties in a 4-0 demolition job.
Likewise, Willian’s notorious energy feels well-suited to the trip to Anfield; not only will Chelsea have defend well collectively to keep a clean sheet, but the South American’s ability to press could be the perfect foil for a shaky Liverpool defence that always looks to play out of the back.
So, Chelsea fans, would you start Willian on Saturday? Let us know by voting below…
