Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made eight changes to the team that drew 1-1 with Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final tie with Atletico Madrid at the Emirates on Thursday for the trip to Manchester United on Sunday, and Gunners fans have been quick to have their say on the selection.
Konstantinos Mavropanos, whom fans on Twitter wanted to start, comes in at centre-back to make his full debut, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Calum Chambers, Sead Kolasinac, Alex Iwobi, Reiss Nelson, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also come into the XI.
Wenger’s selection proves that he has one eye on their trip to the Spanish capital on Thursday, which is no surprise given as it is their best opportunity of qualifying for the Champions League, but he will also surely be keen to pick up a positive result on what will be his last visit to Old Trafford as manager of the north London outfit.
Arsenal supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the Frenchman’s selection, and while one said “RIP United”, another said “Lord help us”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
