While he had plenty to celebrate there, McElhenney had been hoping to see his beloved Eagles keep their quest for Super Bowl glory in 2024 on track. He was not prepared to miss the build-up to their NFL play-off clash with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and made a point of ignoring those around him as he watched a live stream on his phone.
WHAT MCELHENNEY SAID
Wife Kaitlin, who is also a regular at Eagles games, caught him in the act – leading McElhenney to post on social media: “Who schedules the Emmys the same night as the @eagles”
Philadelphia’s finest in the American form of football let him down as they suffered a season-ending 32-9 defeat to the Bucs.
WHAT NEXT FOR MCELHENNEY?
McElhenney did collect the Emmy for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program, with Reynolds having already delivered an acceptance speech for that awards nod when dressed as his on-screen alter-ego Deadpool – while holding a broken statuette loaned to him by close friend and Wolverine star Hugh Jackman.
